Tehran carpet (Persia), 3rd third of the... - Lot 365 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Tehran carpet (Persia), 3rd third of the 19th century Dimensions : 295 x 200cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on a cotton foundation. An ivory field reveals a vision of the Garden of Eden where a magnificent multicolored flowering vase is enthroned in the middle of blooming shrubs. This rich undergrowth serves as a shelter for a multitude of birds spying on hunting scenes. Two symmetrical fortresses support two sky boxes where two devils appear...the door to hell? While another box overhanging the other two reveals a couple of doves ... the door to heaven? An imposing polychrome symbolic floral composition suspended from the vault serves as a refuge for two leopards confronting the "Dragon". The sky vault of the mihrab is with corollas on stems and small Moorish ruby floral boxes. Three old gold and navy borders with garlands of flowers frame the main sky with polychrome plant decoration where white birds are hidden. Galon with two-colored chess pieces. Strong symbolism, very good quality and great presence. A certificate of authenticity of the expert, Mr. Frank KASSAPIAN, will be given to the purchaser.
