Tapestry panel from the workshops of Felletin (Creuse region), near Aubusson, (France), late 17th century, early 18th century Dimensions : Height : 275cm ; 223cm. Technical characteristics : In wool and silk. (Restorations of maintenance, oxidations and natural wear) It is probably Mary Stuart (Queen of Scotland, then Queen of France from 14/12/1542 to 24/07/1567, (born on 8/12/1542 and died on 08/02/1587). Tapestry belonging to the series of "Illustrious Women", by Isaac MOILLON (1614-1673), painter of the king in Aubusson and inspired by Guy François (1578-1650). This tapestry, puts in scene Mary Stuart, richly dressed, conversing with what seems to be a doctor (archiatrist) carrying a vial of remedy, and this, in front of an areopagus of advisers concerting. The assembly includes two helmeted and armed soldiers, an oriental with a turban and four "senators" in togas. All takes place in the shelter of a powerful wall, in the courtyard of a fortress, in the shade of hangings. Beautiful border with flower basins and fruit bowls surrounded by bundles of foliage.
