He is wearing the laurel crown of the victor, he has in his hand the royal scepter, he wears a necklace that holds a cape on his shoulders and he is harnessed with a rich cuirass. His feet are placed on a thick cushion that protects him from the floor of the chariot. A young page, elegantly dressed, brandishing a palm leaf, as well as an honorable adviser, walk at his side. A whole row of palm leaves can be seen along the way, making Hadrian the forerunner of Christ entering Jerusalem. Behind the branches of the trees one sees a citadel with "Moorish" battlements and a city. The path taken is variously flowered, in the foreground. Gallooned border. Hadrian was governor of Antioch, metropolis of Syria and was proclaimed Emperor in Antioch, at the death of Trajan, he was acclaimed by his troops as imperator on August 12.
