ISPAHAN carpet (Persia), late 19th century Dimensions... - Lot 61 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
ISPAHAN carpet (Persia), late 19th century Dimensions : 205 x 138cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on cotton foundation. A vision of paradise is offered to us on this mihrab carpet which represents the entrance door of the Garden of Eden. A majestic tree of life, flanked by four saplings serves as a refuge for many animals. Thus, felids hunting deer, canids, birds, and small mammals frolic in the middle of a tangle of flowering branches and polychrome fruits. Four chicks are chirping in a nest at the top of the tree, symbolizing the renewal of life. The crenellated turquoise vaults feature two peacocks doing cartwheels, attacked by reptiles, among interlacing plants. The main fuchsia border is animated bestiary, coiled in a luxuriant flora. Four ivory and turquoise counter-borders with garlands of flowers flank the main one. Very beautiful presence and harmonious palette. Bibliography : - Antike orientalische knüpfkunst 1976 of P.
