PETITS POINTS rug (France), 1st third of... - Lot 42 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
PETITS POINTS rug (France), 1st third of the 20th century Dimensions: 412 x 300cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on cotton backing. A rich molded frame with convex and concave chestnut, cream, ivory and purple alcoves, with rows of pearls and ovals, hosts rich garlands of multicolored flowers. Each corner and cardinal point is adorned with polychrome floral compositions set on scrolling acanthus "bas-relief" supports. It frames a rectangular ivory field supporting a rich gigogne medallion, highlighted with a wreath of laurel leaves. Two braids of flowers, one ivory on a tobacco background and the other multicolored on a chestnut background, surround the center with its cruciform corolla and acanthus leaf frieze. Great distinction in the grand siècle style.
