Tapestry of Flanders, early 17th century - Lot 610
Tapestry of Flanders, early 17th century Technical characteristics : Wool and silk Dimensions : Height : 195cm ; Width : 215cm A rarely evoked subject is presented to us on this tapestry, indeed we see a curious team of four horses wearing blinkers, individual feeders and having especially felted hooves (to avoid seeing and making noise?) pulling the chariot of Death, which we see on the right, armed with its scythe and curiously accompanied by Cupid. The whole is led by the fallen angel Lucifer, represented as a hairy, winged, bipedal beast armed with a pike. A madman (?), on the left, seems to be watching this frightening crew pass. The landscape is wooded and bucolic, we distinguish some houses on the horizon. Border with braid. Perhaps to bring closer to the series dedicated to Don Quixote. (Minor wear and maintenance restorations) A certificate of authenticity of the expert, Mr. Frank KASSAPIAN, will be given to the buyer.
