Elegant silk TABRIZ (Persia), late 19th century... - Lot 42 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Elegant silk TABRIZ (Persia), late 19th century (circa 1870)Dimensions: 166 x 133cm. Technical characteristics: Silk velvet on silk foundations. Density of 480,000 knots in one square meter. A chestnut field, with a triple ogive, houses four small columns with capitals, supporting a double vault, with sky and cream arabesques, decorated with polychrome corollas. A symbolic plant hangs from the vault, hanging from a basin from which a stylised plant formation is extracted. Two marine counterborders with interlacing flowering stems frame the main ivory border, following wavy polychrome vegetal foliage. Outer border with chess pawns and brick braid. Beautiful contrasting ensemble, reminiscent of archaic church carpets.
