H. RYDAEMS. "Tenture d'Holopherne" Tapestry panel of Brussels of the XVII° (after 1669), woven in the workshops of the Merchant weaver Henri II° Reydams (active from 1669 to 1719) Belonging to the hanging suite about Judith's life story. Here we present the panel that registers the banquet of King Holofernes for Judith, and in the background the liberation of Achior, leader of the sons of Ammon. The rich border, made up of side columns, with putti, bouquets of flowers, and in the upper part many fruits and flowers in garlands with in the middle a Latin cartouche: "ACHIDROUX A MON TARU ENAR ISAES POTENTIAM IUSSU HOLOFERNIS CAPTIUS". Manufacture Bruxelloise active between 1629 and 1719 and managed successively by Henri I and his son Henri II. Henri I became a member of the corporation in 1629, obtained a privilege in 1640, was co-founder of the Halle des Tapissiers bruxellois in 1657, dean of the corporation in 1658 and died in 1669. He wove, among others, The Riding School and The Life of Judith (both in Hluboka), The Life of Man (Cotehele). He collaborated with the manufacturers Leyniers, Van Leefdael and Van der Streecken for the editions of Les Exploits de Scipion d'après Giulio Romano (Venice; Vienna; Lausanne, collection Toms) and Les Mois d'après Van den Hoecke (Stockholm). Henry II took over the workshop in 1669. In 1675 he married Catherine Leyniers, daughter of the painter and cardboard maker Daniel Leyniers, who was related to the weavers and dyers. Dean in 1687, he had five looms in operation in 1703. In 1712 he concluded a contract of collaboration with his cousins Urbain and Daniel II Leyniers.
