Rare KHNDZORESK (Caucasus, Armenia), late... - Lot 96 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Rare KHNDZORESK (Caucasus, Armenia), late 19th century. A brick red field with flowers and hooks supports two octagonal and a half medallions, blue and celadon green. This decoration is typical of these Armenian carpets of the "Siunik". The heart with entomological decoration or "Kotchak", symbolizes the breast of an eagle from which are born the legs with sharp claws. The stylized "S" are inspired by the Chinese "Tchis". They can be interpreted as the symbolism of the dragon. The two connected stars are a symbol of marital union. The highlighting of white hooks is also to be compared to the "Dragon". The ivory main border with polychrome flowers is framed by two saw-toothed counter-edges and four gold and brick highlights. 230 x 150cm Technical data: Wool velvet on wool foundation Beautiful polychromy Beautiful polychromy Collector's piece Beautiful fresh colours Beautiful condition Good condition Good condition Bibliography: - Battenberg antiquitäten katalogue, "Orientteppiche", Part 1: Kaukasische teppiche by Doris EDER, pages 138 to 143
