PEREDIL (Caucasus), late 19th century An abrasive navy blue field dotted with diamonds, small "S"s, flowers, Medes stars, combs and small animals, supports two large alignments of eighteen polychrome, ram's horn-guarded "Kindjals" (Caucasian daggers) framing ten opposing "Kotchaks" (trophies) and nine flamboyant rhombic flowers. Stylized boxed volatiles complete the ensemble. A magnificent main steel frame with 'kufic' boxes made of ivory interlacing and cruciform flowers, flanked by two small counter-borders with 'Bayadère' decoration (multicoloured bands) make up the frame. Beaded highlighting and brick and pistachio external braid with chess pawns.
