Fine and original ISPAHAN (Persia), end of the 19th century, Prayer rug A vision of paradise is offered to us on this mihrab carpet which represents the entrance door to the Garden of Eden. A majestic tree of life, flanked by four shrubs, serves as a refuge for many animals. Thus, felids hunting deer, canids, fowl, and small mammals frolic in the midst of an interlacing of flowering branches and polychrome fruit. Four fledglings chirp in a nest located at the top of the tree, symbolizing the renewal of life. The turquoise crenellated vaults feature, among interlacing plant life, two peacocks making a wheel, attacked by reptiles. The main fuchsia border is a lively bestiary, nestled in lush flora. Four ivory and turquoise counterborders with garlands of flowers flank the main one. Very beautiful presence and harmonious palette. 205 x 138cm Technical characteristics: Lambswool velvet on cotton foundations. Density: Approx. 9500 knots per dm2. Good general condition. Beautiful polychromy Bibliography: - Antike orientalische knüpfkunst 1976 by P. BAUSBACK pages 193, 195, 197
