VOISIN C4 S - 1925 Coupé de ville " Fiacre... - Lot 143 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
VOISIN C4 S - 1925 Coupé de ville " Fiacre " (city car) Serial number : 6280 Gabriel VOISIN (1880-1973) is with his brother Charles one of the most famous pioneers of aeronautics, from 1905. He founded the BLÉRIOT-VOISIN factories with the future aviator crossing the Channel and gaining universal fame. He then collaborated with Louis Blériot for car headlights. After a commercial success during the first war with 10,400 planes produced, he launched into the automobile industry in 1919 with the C1. In 1921, the C4 is released and will be produced until December 1925 (chassis N° 5401 to 6280) at 900 copies (bare chassis). Produced with a 1248 cm3 engine, it will be released from 25/09/1923 with a more powerful 1328 cm3 engine under the name C4 S. Our car is the last C4 S produced. This last chassis would have been planned for Louis Blériot, the friend of all time, but finally it was acquired by a rich textile industrialist in Roquecourbe, near Castres, in the Tarn: Henri Fabre de Massaguel. He entrusted the chassis to a coachbuilder from Castres, "La Carrosserie Castraise", who made an elegant city coupé, which can be called "Fiacre" because its cut is similar to the Bugatti 44 "Fiacre". It can also be compared with the VOISIN "Valse Bleue" from the MARCEL collection, bodied by Simon Pralavorio from Lyon (classified as a historical monument / estimated at 50 / 130,000 € at a 2019 sale) The car remained in the hands of its owner for 50 years, before leaving the family factory in the Tarn and being deposited for more than 45 years in the hands of our deceased amateur. Restored more than 40 years ago, the car is in superb cosmetic condition, however it requires a mechanical revision for road use. A rare "AVIONS VOISIN" car from the first period, with an original city coupe body, with folding seats, designed by a body builder from the South-West. A rare piece, in its original condition without transformation. Castres as well as Mazamet, and the north of France, were flourishing textile capitals. The local industrialists owned luxury cars: Bugatti, Voisin, and had called upon bodybuilders to make their purchases with bare chassis. Castres in the 1920s was renowned for its luxury coachbuilders. Its first owner, who later used a Citroën Traction, had declared that his VOISIN had better handling, especially for the hills. 5 years ago we sold a VOISIN C18 coupe for 900 000 €, a unique car, a record unequalled in the world. The car we present is also unique for a C4 S and is within the reach of many collectors. Succession J.B. - Gers The end of the end: it is accompanied by its small wicker basket of snacks with its pourers, heater and porcelain cups.
