Rare and important carpet KOUBA / AKSTAFA... - Lot 110 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Rare and important carpet KOUBA / AKSTAFA (Caucasus), end of the 19th century Dimensions : 421 x 186cm. Technical characteristics : wool velvet on wool foundation. Three magnificent floral medallions poly-lobed brick, old gold and mauve, decorated with multicolored geometric patterns are lying on a marine field interspersed with long celadon green boxes with stylized vegetation. Curious "double-birds" (hoopoes?) strewn all over the carpet. Four triangular brick spandrels with ivory scrolls frame the whole. Two internal highlights, composed of small polychrome pyramids topped with "crocheted jacks" run the length of the field. Brick border with a series of geometric multicolored starry flowers, flanked by two serrated sky counter borders. Very great freshness, pictorial rarity and totally atypical decoration. Exceptional Caucasian carpet by its size and its pattern, great collector's item. (Very good condition)
