Important panel of tapestry from Oudenaarde... - Lot 107 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Important panel of tapestry from Oudenaarde (Flanders), from the middle of the 16th century, (renaissance period) Dimensions : Height : 275cm ; 475cm. Technical characteristics : In wool and silk. (Natural oxidations, relay to be partially stitched) "Maximilian's hawk hunt" In a rich undergrowth flourishing, green and wet, hosting a diverse and varied fauna, we attend a hawk hunt. Thus two noble riders dressed in beautiful finery and with richly harnessed mounts, are preparing to launch their birds into the air. Countless other characters are engaged in various hunting techniques in secondary scenes. In the central background, we see a castle and its formal garden, set against a steep hillside. The border alone is worth the detour, in fact, we see a succession of allegorical characters, representing knowledge or qualities: victorious mother love, experience, use, poetry, diligence, work and architecture. They are enriched with putti and multicolored basins of abundance. We also see the god Pan, jousters riding fantastic animals, flowery canopies and caryatids supporting the vaults of this incredible architectural and floral profusion. Great freshness and incredible graphic richness for this Flemish tapestry.
