Panel of tapestry from Oudenaarde (Flanders),... - Lot 105 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Panel of tapestry from Oudenaarde (Flanders), early 16th century Dimensions : Height : 260cm ; 200cm. Technical characteristics : In wool and silk. (Good general condition) "The Arcadian shepherds" Three young people, dressed as Arcadian shepherds, and holding houlettes, converse with a seated noble patriarch, in cuirass and toga. Sheep are drinking at the fountain and three shepherdesses are watching, from afar, the scene, with their staffs in hand. The whole scene takes place in a wooded and green landscape from which emerges what seems to be a castle. Arcadia was considered a mythical country, a land of shepherds where people lived happily in love and that many poets had sung. The border is a succession of richly flowered vases interspersed with holy figures and epicureans. Beautiful Renaissance set.
