Jean Pierre HOEFER (attributed to) Rare and unique desk. Jean Pierre HOEFER is the patented cabinetmaker of the Duke Alexandre de Wurtemberg, husband of Marie d'Orléans. He was established in the Faubourg Saint Antoine and then in the Boulevard Beaumarchais. King Louis Philippe acquired a small desk in 1844 and in 1855 the Empress Eugenie ordered a secretary inlaid with silver and marquetry (museum of the Château de Compiègne). He is the specialist of combinations as for the locks of the presented desk. Desk in wood of various species, burl of thuya, burl, ebony, bottom in oak, marquetry of silver and brass in foliage and floral scrolls. The marquetry is all faces. Ornamentation of gilded bronzes. It opens with a flap with double doucine and presents two boxes resting on 8 feet in volutes carved with flowers, it opens with 3 drawers, 1 secret drawer hidden by box and a central drawer. The central drawer by a mechanism blocks all other drawers of the desk. It has three drawers in its upper part and the flap discovers three drawers and a writing surface in gilded leather with irons decorated with palmettes.
