Alexandre ISAÏLOFF (Constantinople 1869-... - Lot 61 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Alexandre ISAÏLOFF (Constantinople 1869- Marseille 1944) Mediterranean Coast. Oil on canvas, signed lower left. Height: 157 cm Width: 209 cm. Exceptional frame e, wood carved with foliage and flowers (width: 20 cm) Without reserve price. Alexandre isaïloff of noble family of Russian origin, who emigrated to Constantinople was born in the marvel of the Bosphorus. His parents came to live in Marseille, where he began his career at the Beaux Arts; he was a disciple of Jean-Baptiste Olive and like him was a specialist of the creeks of the Mediterranean coast. He spent two years in Italy and in the Orient, then in Paris where he exhibited at the salons from 1899. The art critic Gérald Schuzz confirmed him as "the impressionist of the Mediterranean" with the boldness of his painting. The painting presented here is certainly his most important work in terms of size and quality; a salon painting of French artists.
