Rare KOULA "Mezarlik" carpet (Asia Minor), mid 19th century Dimensions : 194 x 131cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. The marine field of the mihrab, of this prayer carpet, is decorated with a central floral column and two other eccentric ones, formed by the stacking of mausoleums. This is a recurring decoration, known as "Mezarlik" for these rugs woven in honor of a deceased person. Two anthracite reserves with vegetal decorations, enclose the field, or the inverted vault and the lintel, support a delicate pastel ornamentation. Nine borders with ribbons, garlands of flowers, flowers and small tulips, frame the whole in a harmonious and contrasting way. Bibliography : - Carpets of R.
