SOUMAK carpet (Caucasus), late 19th century Dimensions : 315 x 235cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. A central brick field covered with polychrome flowers and flowering stems supports three important lozenge medallions, crenellated bluish, decorated with crosses, vegetalized and having for two of them an octagonal heart with multicolored starry flowers and for the other one a radiant starry flower. Octagonal sky boxes with stylized flowers with ethnic petals, entomological forms, as well as pyramidal hooked forms symbolizing Kindjals (Caucasian daggers) integrate the decoration. The central field is flanked by two jagged rows of floral compositions and stylized insect forms in polychrome. Two counter borders old gold and old pink garlands of flowers frame the main border, called "Coufique", anthracite to suite of cruciform rosettes placed on geometric interlacing marine. External braid anthracite, brick and gold called "dogs running". Rich decoration with varied palette.
