Rostrum of sawfish. Rostrum Onchopristis... - Lot 89 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Rostrum of sawfish. Rostrum Onchopristis Numidus. Mesozoic, Cretaceous, Albian (about 105 to 110 million years ago) Kemkem, Morocco. Size : 66cmX18cm Museum piece. It was the largest known sawfish, which made it a formidable predator but also the prey of the great Spinosaurus. All the rostral teeth of the sawfish are equipped with a hook capable of trapping a barbel to catch prey. Like the modern sawfish, O. numidus would have lived along the bottom and sometimes fought, injuring smaller fish and crustaceans in order to catch and eat them.
