Important KIZIL-AYAK carpet, (Central Asia), early 20th century Dimensions : 310 x 220cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. Plum background decorated by a sowing of Gühls in the form of crenellated diamonds, surrounded by a main ivory border and two gold counter-borders, enriched by two reserves with polychrome flowered stems. "In the 19th century, the tribe of Teke was the most important of all Turkmen tribes and occupied most of the area between the Caspian Sea and the Amu Darya River. The patterns that decorate the surface of Turkmen carpets are geometrical patterns called Güls.
