Tapestry panel from the workshops of La... - Lot 39 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Tapestry panel from the workshops of La Marche. (France) end of XVIth and beginning of XVIIth century. In wool and silk "Assuerus and Aman " From the story of Esther Aman wants to make Assuerus sign the order to exterminate the Jews This tapestry puts in scene, without any doubt, a biblical scene, where we see a venerable sovereign with a flowery beard, in cuirass, toga and collar, wearing a royal tiara and having in the hand a sceptre, sitting on his magnificent throne, all draped in blue dyes, receiving a missive from another royal personage, of the same age, also holding a sceptre and dressed in a heavy and long coat with "Brandebourgs", ruff and headgear. A counsellor with a "Phrygian" cap accompanies the second, while the first is guarded by a heavily armed soldier and is "assisted" by a dwarf, who has the role of the fool. A balustrade separates the throne room from the other rooms of the castle, where a copyist can be seen writing a book and another conversing with a messenger. Archaic border with floral compositions and female figures looking at each other. Height : 230 ; Width : 260cm. Missing bottom border. Restorations of maintenance".
