AUBUSSON Important tapestry of the Royal... - Lot 16 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
AUBUSSON Important tapestry of the Royal Manufacture of Aubusson. Beginning of the XVIII° century, carton after JB Pillement. The duck hunt In silk and wool. Remarkable state of conservation. Beautiful freshness of colors. Some restorations for maintenance. Height 290cm - Width 475cm The theme of the greenery has been very often interpreted in all the French workshops. Indeed this type of panel of tapestry was deployed preferably the winter and reproduced most willingly views of gardens, in summer, of the houses in which they were exposed. In general these panels were at least four in number in order to have views of all parts of the property of which they were the object. Here, our panel shows a castle with a view of its garden in which a woman is walking, in the foreground a dog chasing a pair of mallard ducks at the edge of a fountain with a parrot at the top, an exotic bird of fantasy par excellence, while on the left a large thistle symbolizes the sun and the hope of better days. A rich and beautiful border attests by the presence on its "listel" of the abbreviation "I-C-M-RDAUBSSON" for Isaac Cathonnet Manufacture Royale D'AUBUSSON. A tapestry with an identical cardboard is reproduced page 214 of the book "les belles heures de la tapisserie" of Dario Boccara (ed. 1971).
