Panel of fragment of fine tapestry diverted from Brussels (Flanders )2nd part of the 16th century. The siege of Jerusalem during the First Crusade (7/06/1099 to 15/07/1099). Godfroy de Bouillon in the foreground, liberates the holy places from the Seljuk Turkish domination (the pennant with the crescent moon can be seen), this siege allowed the crusaders to seize Jerusalem and found the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Made of silk and wool. Nice polychromy, nice freshness of colours Maintenance restorations Hind braids added Ht. 117cm - Width 172cm After the massacre, Godefroy de Bouillon became Advocatus Sancti Sepuchri (Confessed of the Holy Sepulchre) on July 22, refusing to be king in the city where Christ died. On August 12, Godefroy led an army, with the Holy Cross, to fight the Fatimid army at Ascalon. It was a Crusader victory, but after the victory most of the Crusaders considered their vow fulfilled and returned to Europe. However, their victory led to the creation of the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem.
