Exceptional, very important and very fine Tapestry of Soho (England). Early 18th century Duck hunting Wool and silk. In perfect condition. Remarkable freshness of colours, very nice polychromy, splendid quality of weaving. Polychromy border with garlands of flowers and foliage. Ht. 240cm - Width 405cm Duck hunting is equated with migratory bird hunting. Migratory birds are often hunted at sunrise and sunset. The ducks move at this time to streams, lakes and marshes. The hunters position themselves around water points, and it is important that they are as inconspicuous as possible so that the ducks do not see them. It is necessary to have a good retriever dog that loves water. Many ducks can be hunted, but the most common are mallards, teals and wigeons. This hanging depicts two young men hunting ducks. This panel was to be part of a series of hangings about hunting methods, such as here the musket, the javelin, the hound (a spaniel).
