AUBUSSON
Aubusson tapestry of the 18th century, from a cardboard box of PILLEMENT (1728-1808). Country and exotic monuments: A bell-towered garden kiosk and a pagoda, both in the background and perched on high ground, compete for the limelight with two exotic trees planted in a lush, damp undergrowth. Unless the real star is that multicoloured parrot, looking down from its full height at a more down-to-earth stilt-walker. Note on the left, the original exotic lychee fruit tree (Litchi Sinensis: Chinese cherry tree). Edging with wheels inlaid with stylized flowers in the shape of waves and scrolls. Beautiful polychromy. Wool and Silk. Ht. 260cm - Width 290cm Jean-Baptiste PILLEMENT was one of the great representatives of the rococo movement throughout Europe, painter of the King of Poland and painter of Queen Marie-Antoinette.
