Very important AUBUSSON tapestry. Late 17th - Early 18th century Hunting scene In wool and silk Good general condition Remarkable freshness of colours. Beautiful greenery. Wide border with garlands of flowers and foliage wrapped in ribbons. Ht. 265cm - Width 470cm A rich green undergrowth in the shade of large, darkly-branched oak trees provides the setting for a hunting scene, where two dogs are trying to kill a young deer. The action is dominated by perched villages, castles and churches while a water mill borders the river. Rich garlanded borders of flowers, ribbons and acanthus compositions in the corners.
