Very rare and original ZAKATALA (North Caucasus-Western Azerbaijan), mid-19th century Carpet composed of fourteen alternating ivory and brick boxes, each decorated with stylized pyramidal polychrome floral vases. Each box is enriched with small symbols typical of Caucasian decorations. The main brick border is made up of small hexagonal multicoloured boxes with geometric flowers. The anthracite inner counter border is made of a succession of Kotchaks (ram's horns) of various colours. The ivory highlighting is "Osselets" and suggests a kilim decoration. It is dated 1229 A.D. (1807 A.D.). Tribal carpet of great elegance. Extremely rare provenance. 324 x 145cm.
