AVAR (Caucasus-Daghestan), late 19th century A jagged, abrasive blue field, hosts the ivory contours of a two-compartment floral medallion, decorated with entomological brick vegetalized forms. Small star-shaped flowers complete the ensemble. The main ivory border is a series of stylised cruciform flowers, segmented by opposing arrowheads. It is flanked by two counter-borders with geometric garlands, all in beautiful polychrome. External braid with bicoloured saw-tooth. Provenance and decoration, rare. 200 x 141cm.
