Important KIZIM-OUCHAK (Caucasus-Armenia),... - Lot 105 - FEE - Stanislas Machoïr
Important KIZIM-OUCHAK (Caucasus-Armenia), Early 20th. Dated 1914 A brick field dated 1914 and inscribed with Armenian letters supports in its center the "foundations of a church" cruciform, old gold, decorated with St. Andrew's crosses and small quadruple crosses. An important rhombic medallion with marine arrows, hosts a brick octagon with vegetation, surrounded by four small two-headed ivory eagles. The central motif is framed by four representations of the 'dragon', composed of stylised polychrome silhouettes set against an ivory background. Two marine, brick and ivory 'symbolic lamps' hang from two trees of life. The decoration is completed by four multicoloured angular cruciform floral compositions. The main old gold border has a succession of geometric floral boxes known as 'kufic decoration', framed by two counter-edges with brick, marine and water-green chess pieces in positive/negative. Two-tone ivory and brick highlighting. Magnificent carpet symbolizing the syncretism between proto-Armenian pagan beliefs and Christianity adopted in 301 AD. Exceptional in size and decoration.
