QUASGAI (Persia), late 19th century An ivory diamond-shaped medallion and its outgrowths at the four cardinal points form a cruciform whole with an exuberant multicoloured flower at the heart. It is set on a jagged sea field with a rich seedbed of stylized polychrome flowers. Four small ivory spandrels with delicate floral compositions enclose the whole. Four counter-borders with small cruciform flowers, "botehs" and small stylized insects, all in polychrome, form the main frame. 218 x 140cm Technical characteristics: Wool velvet on wool foundations. Qq natural oxidation. Beautiful polychromy. Remarkable fineness.
